My Priorities for Croton-Harmon Schools
With an 11th grader at CHHS and an 8th grader at PVC, along with strong connections to families at CET and in our local UPK program, I have a clear view to the needs and priorities of students across our community. Having served one term on the Board of Education, this year as Vice President, I am now even more committed to the work that needs to be done.
ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT
Since my election to the Board in 2023, my highest priority has been to ensure our schools maintain a commitment to academic excellence, and that the district’s focus is centered on student experiences and outcomes. Every student deserves the opportunity to be challenged, to develop strong critical thinking skills, and to pursue the aspects of learning that most inspire them.
MEASURABLE OUTCOMES
I have worked with my Board colleagues and district administration to bring back the practice of regularly reviewing student achievement, so that we can ensure our resources are directed to supporting both our learners and our educators. It's imperative for the Board of Education to have an active role in evaluating the district's programs and practices through a variety of measures.
TRANSPARENT GOVERNANCE
I have advocated for stronger Board oversight of district operations through policy, particularly as it relates to student privacy, data collection, and the use and licensing of technology. As chair of the Board Development Committee for two years, I’ve worked to establish and document best practices for governance and transparency, including formalizing a superintendent review cycle that allows for direct input from all trustees, not just Board officers; onboarding and mentoring new trustees so they can be more effective contributors in their first year; communicating the work of Board committees to the public; and improving community relations through the Board’s biweekly “Meet the BOE” forums, designed to give all community members regular and direct access to trustees.
COMMUNITY REPRESENTATION
A school board trustee is charged with representing the community and reflecting its values within the educational system. This is a charge I take very seriously, as the many parents, families, and community members I’ve met with and spoken to over these last three years can attest. In any community as vibrant and engaged as Croton, there will be differences of opinion and perspective. I welcome these discussions. As a trustee, I have never shied away from asking questions, encouraging reflection, and demanding action when necessary to support our district’s students, educators, and staff.
COMMITMENT TO SERVICE
A dynamic, strong school system requires an engaged community to sustain it. As a representative of our community, I will continue to bring transparency, a focus on academic achievement, and a commitment to listening with empathy to the Board of Education. I hope to earn your vote for trustee at the upcoming and School Board Election and Budget Vote on Tuesday, May 19, from 6 am to 9 pm, at Croton-Harmon High School.
